CHILE, Santiago, gold bust 1 escudo, Charles III, 1783/2 DA, very rare, PCGS XF45, finest and only example in PCGS census. Cal-unl (cf 1490); KM-unl (26 for type); Fr-18. Bright yellow color and luster, with strong full rims and reverse, the bust a little weakly struck but minimally worn (looks more like AU), bold overdate 3/2 but not noted by PCGS, in any case from a reported mintage of just 2,584 pieces, of which this is the only entry for the date at PCGS with none at NGC, just one other example recorded within the past several decades. Pedigreed to the Cayón auction of February 2023 (lot 508).
